News About New Day Columbia

New Day Columbia began operating in our current facilities Monday, June 29, 2026. As tenants of the VAC Opportunity Campus complex, we provide day center services to those experiencing homelessness. Our services include access to showers/restrooms, laundry facilities, personal storage, computer usage, charging stations, and Wi-Fi.

Mel and Lynn McMorris, long-time volunteers at New Day Columbia, received the Progress in Volunteerism award at the 9th annual Missourian 2025 Progress Awards. The Missourian Progress Awards honor those who have made significant contributions to their community.

Turning Point (now New Day Columbia) began as a ministry of Wilkes Boulevard United Methodist Church in 2014. In January 2026, Turning Point began operating as an independent nonprofit but remained as a tenant at WBUMC.

During the winter months the need for shelter increases as the temperatures drop. That’s when New Day Columbia, formerly known as Turning Point, steps up. When temperatures fall to 25 degrees or below, we operate as an emergency overnight warming center.

Darren Morton, Executive Director of New Day Columbia (formerly Turning Point), began as the managing director in May 2018. Darren has consistently led this organization with compassion, conviction, and determination. He strongly believes in the importance of building relationships and our mission of providing hope and restoring dignity to our community.
